On 13th March 2009 Uchumi supermarkets joined Kiss Fm and other media stations to fight hunger through offering Uchumi stores as collection points through out the country.The Uchumi hypers worked 24hours to ensure that no kenyan was locked out of helping our fellow Kenyans." during a radio interview with  Kiss Claire commented that Kenyans had supported Uchumi during hard times and we feel humbled to be able to particpate in this worthy cause, she urged customers to join hands and make 24 hours for Kenya succesful, "let us not let a child skip school, a father marry off her under age daughter because he cannot feed her" 24 Hours for Kenya was a huge success and a total of 264,328.
